Day 3: Sleeping Beauty

Pain Level: 3

Nausea: on and off all day, but not as bad as yesterday

Swelling: going down! Still definitely large and uncomfortable, but I don’t look quite as boxy as I did yesterday. I’ve been much better about icing today, which has helped tremendously. (Also, a tip for those of you recovering from jaw surgery, too: If your chin/lip is numb but itchy, applying ice alleviates the itching to some degree. Ice has kept me from going crazy!)

I’ve mostly slept today, utterly exhausted from the past few days,  I think. My pain has been ok, though, which has allowed me to sleep quite a bit longer than the previous two nights. And though I’m still wearing the anti-nausea patch, I’ve only taken Percoset once today. My pain is easily manageable by liquid motrin at this point.

The highlight of my day happened when Brandon brought in a condiment bottle full of chicken broth. It’s the first time I’ve eaten from something other than a syringe. (Plus, our syringe stash is getting pretty frustrating, always sticking and squirting unexpectedly. Earlier today, I shot bright red medicine across the living room with one faulty syringe.) The condiment bottle has a long, thin spout, and is much easier to maneuver than the syringe. I ended up eating an entire serving of chicken broth through it, which is the most I’ve had since surgery. Best feeding apparatus yet!!

Well, even though it’s New Years Eve and I should be out partying 2011 away with friends, I’m already in bed, hunkered down for the night. I’m looking forward to a visit from my mom and Frodo the pup, but am also looking forward to sleeping more. 🙂

So, this sleeping beauty (with jowls) bids you a goodnight!
